Red Gem is Gemma di Luna in a warmer register: an Italian red blend put together for immediate pleasure rather than for the cellar. Italy has more indigenous grape varieties than any country on earth, and blends like this one exist to make that abundance easy to drink.
Expect ripe dark cherry, plum and a soft herbal edge, with a medium body, supple tannins and a smooth finish. Serve it lightly cool, around sixty degrees, which keeps the fruit fresh. It is a natural partner for tomato-based pasta, pizza, grilled vegetables and hard cheeses, and it is forgiving enough to pour for a table with mixed tastes.
