Old vines are the whole argument here. Zinfandel planted decades ago in Lodi produces small crops of intensely concentrated fruit, and the gnarled, twisted trunks that gave this label its name are the reason the wine tastes as dense as it does. This is the bottle that made Gnarly Head a household name, and it remains the best thing they do.
Blackberry jam, raspberry and black pepper with vanilla and a hint of smoke, full-bodied, juicy and warming, finishing long. Pour it with barbecue, ribs, chili, lamb or hard cheese. For drinkers who want a red with swagger and are not looking for restraint.
