Riserva is not a marketing word in Chianti Classico. It is a legal standard, requiring at least two years of aging before the wine may be released, and Guinigi's bottling comes out of the Sangiovese heartland between Florence and Siena carrying that patience.
Sour cherry and dried plum sit alongside leather, tobacco and a savory earthiness, held up by the firm acidity that makes Tuscan reds such good company at the table. Open it an hour ahead. Then pour it with bistecca, a long-cooked ragù, aged pecorino, or a pizza that deserves better than beer.
