Maison Hennessy has been blending eaux-de-vie in the town of Cognac since 1765, and VSOP Privilege is the expression the house treats as its signature. Dozens of separate eaux-de-vie go into it, matured in French oak until wood and spirit stop arguing. This 1.75L format is for people who already know they like it, and for bars and long holiday tables where a standard bottle disappears early.
Expect toasted almond, clove and candied orange over a warm oak backbone, with a finish that stays round rather than sharp. Neat in a tulip glass it shows its maturity; over a large cube or in a Sidecar it holds its shape without losing character.
