Eleven months in American oak — nearly four times what the reposado category requires — is why Herradura’s rested expression tastes closer to an anejo than to its shelf-mates. Casa Herradura has been working this way at its Amatitan estate for well over a century, and the consistency is remarkable. At 1.75L it stops being a treat and becomes the house tequila.
Cooked agave, honey, vanilla and a soft baking-spice warmth, with enough weight to hold its own against citrus. Neat it is genuinely sippable; in a margarita or a paloma it makes the drink noticeably rounder. The handle to buy before a party, not after.
