Casa Herradura claims credit for creating the reposado category in the 1970s, and whether or not that history is airtight, this is the bottle the style gets measured against. The Amatitan estate rests it in American oak for eleven months using estate-grown blue agave, and the house has resisted cutting corners as the brand has grown.
Warm and rounded: cooked agave, honey, vanilla, toasted oak and a whisper of cinnamon on a clean finish. Neat in a copita it rewards slow drinking; in a paloma or a well-made margarita it gives the drink a backbone cheaper tequila simply cannot supply.
