Hornitos came out of the Sauza distillery in 1950 to mark an anniversary, and the line has stayed close to its original purpose: 100 percent blue agave tequila at a price working bars can actually carry. The anejo is the most patient member of the range, given time in American oak to build depth without losing the agave underneath it.
Caramel, vanilla and toasted oak sit over cooked agave, with dried fruit and a warm spiced finish. It is comfortable neat in a copita and makes an excellent agave old fashioned. A sound introduction to aged tequila that does not require a special occasion.
