Ten years in oak is an extraordinary length of time for tequila, well past the three years extra anejo requires and into territory usually reserved for cognac. Imperio del Don committed the barrel space anyway, and the result is a spirit that has largely stopped tasting young: darker, quieter, and more about the wood and the slow oxidation than about the agave's first impression. Bottles aged this long are made in small numbers by definition.

Expect dried fruit, toffee, dark chocolate, walnut and a long, tannic finish with a faint smoky edge. Serve it neat in a brandy glass, no ice, after a meal. This is a collector's tequila and a genuinely impressive bottle to put in front of a whiskey drinker.
