Black is the grown-up version of the white label: same family mash bill, longer in the barrel, and bottled at a higher 43% for extra presence. The additional years in new charred oak are the whole difference, turning a brisk mixing bourbon into something with enough depth to be worth sipping. It remains one of the better value propositions on any bourbon shelf.
Deeper and darker in profile, with caramel, dark toffee, vanilla bean and a distinct oak spice that carries through a genuinely long finish. Excellent neat, better still over one large cube, and it makes the best Manhattan in the Beam range. A smart upgrade for a modest few dollars more.
