Lunar New Year brings out the best packaging in the spirits business, and the Year of the Tiger release is among the sharpest. The whisky is Johnnie Walker Blue Label, blended from a small fraction of the casks in the company's inventory, wrapped here in tiger-motif artwork that makes it an obvious choice for a holiday gift or a collector's row. Same benchmark blend, considerably more shelf presence.

Silky and warm, with honey, hazelnut, dried fruit and orange peel giving way to a long finish of soft smoke and a faint saline edge. Pour it neat in a small glass at room temperature, or try it the way the house suggests: ice cold, straight from the freezer. A gift that needs no explanation.
