Jon Basil is a young, independently founded agave brand, and the anejo is where it makes its clearest case. Anejo means the spirit has spent at least a full year in oak, long enough for the barrel to reshape it, and that patience separates this from the blanco and reposado in the same range. A bottle for drinkers who follow small labels rather than big ones.
Amber in the glass, with caramel, cooked agave, dried fig and toasted oak over a warm vanilla sweetness that lingers. Pour it neat in a copita at room temperature and leave the lime in the fridge. This is sipping tequila, and treating it like a shot would waste the year it spent waiting.
