Jos. A. Magnus and Co. built the Cigar Blend around a single question: what does bourbon need in order to hold its own against a good cigar? The answer was weight and sweetness, arrived at by finishing a blend of straight bourbons in Armagnac, sherry and cognac casks. It is among the most sought-after cask-finished American whiskeys made today, and it rarely sits long.
The nose is dense with dark fruit, fig and toasted oak. The palate brings brandy-soaked raisin, brown sugar, orange rind and a long, warming close. Drink it neat in a heavy glass, water only if you want it, and give it time. Nothing here rewards hurry.
