Kendall-Jackson's Vintner's Reserve has led the category for more than three decades, and it got there by landing on a style that a very large number of people simply like: tropical fruit up front, a measure of barrel influence, and a finish that stops just short of dry.
Pineapple, mango and baked apple arrive first, followed by vanilla, toasted oak and a creamy, lingering close held together by fresh acidity. Serve it chilled but not frozen. A natural with roast chicken, buttered lobster, cream sauces, corn dishes and mild cheese, and perfectly good with no food at all.
