Product Description
A licence granted in 1757 makes Kilbeggan the oldest licensed distillery site in Ireland, and the whiskey trades on that continuity rather than on novelty. It is a traditional blend in the classic County Westmeath style, built around a pot-still component that gives it more grip than the smoothest Irish whiskeys, with a touch of malt character most blends at this price leave out. Genuine history at an everyday number.
Light and grainy, with honey, green apple, toasted barley and a pleasantly dry, faintly peppery finish. It is excellent over ice, sharp in a highball with ginger ale, and holds its own in an Irish coffee. The bottle to keep for a mid-week dram or a St Patrick's Day that deserves better than the obvious choice.
