Famille Perrin, better known for its work in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, makes La Vieille Ferme as a deliberately humble wine, and the chicken on the label has become one of the most recognized in the business. Few bottles offer this much competence for this little money.
The white is bright and unoaked, leading with lemon, pear and white blossom over a dry, clean finish with just enough texture to stay interesting. Serve cold as an aperitif or with light food: goat cheese, salads, grilled fish, a plate of olives. The house white for people who drink white often.
