Vinho Verde comes from the green, rainy northwest corner of Portugal, and it remains one of the last genuinely cheap thrills in wine: low in alcohol, high in acid, faintly spritzy, and designed to be drunk young and cold. Lab makes a modern, unfussy version with a label to match.
Expect lime, green apple and a saline mineral edge, with a light prickle of carbonation and a very dry finish. Serve it as cold as your refrigerator allows. Perfect with sardines, shellfish, fried anything, or a hot afternoon with no food involved at all. Refreshment first, contemplation optional.
