Louis XIII is built from a reserve of eaux-de-vie drawn exclusively from Grande Champagne, the first growth of the Cognac region, with the oldest components resting for decades in ancient oak tiercons. Each cellar master inherits the blend and passes it on, meaning no one who begins a Louis XIII ever sees it finished. Few bottles on earth carry that kind of patience.
The palate is extraordinarily deep and slow to unfold, moving through dried fig, myrrh, sandalwood, honey and candied citrus toward a finish that lingers for many minutes. Serve neat at room temperature in a tulip glass, no ice, no hurry.
