Malibu launched in 1980 and effectively created the coconut rum category, building on rum distilled in the Caribbean and a coconut flavor pitched at people who did not particularly like spirits. Decades later, the white bottle is still the first thing most hands reach for when a drink needs to taste tropical.
Sweet and mellow: coconut cream, light vanilla, soft rum warmth, low strength, a rounded finish. It is the backbone of a pina colada, a Bay Breeze, coconut and pineapple over ice, and it takes happily to cola, cranberry or a squeeze of lime. Keep it chilled and pour freely.
