Marilyn Wines built a following by pairing Napa fruit with labels collectors actually keep, and the Meritage is the serious end of the range: a Bordeaux-style blend given real time in bottle. The 2010 arrives already softened by age, which is rare to find on a shelf and much of the appeal here. Buy it to drink, or buy it to sit alongside the rest of the set.
Fifteen years has traded primary fruit for something more interesting, with dried cherry, cedar, leather and a cool undertow of graphite. The tannins have resolved into something supple. Open it for a steak dinner or a slow braise and pour within a couple of hours.
