Grenache is the great generous grape, thin-skinned and sun-loving, and it makes reds that give pleasure immediately rather than asking to be waited on. This bottling plays it straight: ripe fruit, moderate structure, no heavy oak getting in the way. It is a sound choice when you want something red and welcoming without spending much thought or money on the decision.
The glass leans toward strawberry, raspberry and dried herb, with a touch of white pepper and a soft, warming finish. Tannins are gentle, so it needs no decanting. Serve it slightly below room temperature with roast chicken, grilled sausages, lamb skewers or a bowl of olives and bread.
