Brazil is not an obvious address for gin, which is exactly why this one gets attention. McQueen and the Violet Fog draws on twenty-one botanicals, several of them South American, and the result sits well outside the London Dry template. The bottle is theatrical, but the liquid backs it up, and bartenders have taken it seriously since it arrived.
Juniper is present but sharing the stage with basil, calamansi, jasmine and fresh ginger, giving a floral, faintly tropical gin with a long, peppery finish. It makes a Gin and Tonic that tastes different from the usual, and it holds its own in a Negroni or a Southside.
