When Joe Wagner launched Meiomi in the mid-2000s, he was betting that American drinkers wanted Pinot Noir with more flesh on it than tradition allowed. The bet paid off spectacularly, and this remains the bottle that defines the style: coastal California fruit, generous winemaking, and a dark richness that Pinot purists still argue about and everyone else keeps buying.
Black cherry, ripe strawberry and toasted mocha lead into a supple, almost silky palate with vanilla and a hint of smoke. Serve it lightly chilled with salmon, duck, pork chops, mushroom pasta or a well-stocked cheese board.
