Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the alpine north of Italy behaves differently than it does in warmer places. Cooler nights keep the acidity intact and the fruit more red than black, which produces a leaner, more savory wine with a distinctly European sense of restraint. Mezzacorona has been making wine in Trentino since the nineteenth century, and this is the variety in their idiom.

Expect red currant, black cherry and dried herb with a graphite edge and firm but approachable tannins. It is built for food rather than sipping alone. Serve it at cool room temperature with grilled steak, roast lamb, sausage and peppers or a wedge of hard alpine cheese.
