Product Description
Sangiovese is Tuscany's workhorse grape, and it translates unusually well to California's warmer coastal hillsides, where it holds its acid spine but fills out in the middle. This small-production bottling from Midnight Cellars is made for the dinner table rather than the cellar: a red with grip, savor and no interest in showing off.
Sour cherry and cranberry lead, backed by dried oregano, tea leaf and a dusty, gently grippy tannin that clears the palate between bites. It is one of the great pizza and red-sauce wines. Serve it cool, and pour it with lasagna, sausage and peppers, roast chicken, or a board of salty cheeses.
