Modelo Negra traces back to the Austrian brewers who carried Munich dunkel technique to Mexico, and it remains one of the best dark lagers made anywhere at the price. Dark does not mean heavy here: the color comes from roasted malt, but the body stays medium and the finish stays clean.
Deep amber-brown, with caramel, toasted bread and a light cocoa note over a smooth, gently sweet malt frame and little bitterness. Serve it cold but not ice cold, so the malt shows. Outstanding with carne asada, mole, barbecue, burgers and aged cheese.
