Four generations of the Van Winkle family have put their name on wheated bourbon, and the ten-year Old Rip is where the range begins — the youngest and least impossible member of a lineup people genuinely queue for. Wheat stands in for rye in the mash bill, which is why it drinks softer and sweeter than a bourbon of this age has any right to.
A decade in oak pushes caramel, vanilla and baking spice to the front over a rounded body, with toasted oak and dried fruit behind them and a long, warming finish. Pour it neat and give it a few minutes in the glass to open. This is the 2024 release.
