The 10-year is the entry point to the Van Winkle range and, for many drinkers, the sweet spot. Bottled at 107 proof, it has noticeably more muscle than the older, lower-strength expressions, and that extra power carries the wheated mash bill's soft sweetness with real intensity. This is a 2022 release from one of the most sought-after labels in bourbon.
Rich brown sugar, cherry, vanilla and toasted oak, with a full body, a peppery mid-palate and a long, warming finish. Drink it neat first, then add a few drops of water to open it further. Strong enough to make an exceptional old-fashioned, though most owners will not want to spare it.
