Padre Azul comes out of Jalisco in a hand-finished bottle with a leather-wrapped, skull-topped stopper, which tells you the presentation is part of the product. Behind the packaging is a serious tequila house working with 100 percent blue weber agave, slow-cooked and distilled with the patience the category rewards.
Expect cooked agave at the center, with citrus, pepper and a touch of sweetness, and a long warm finish that never turns harsh. Drink it neat at room temperature in a copita rather than a shot glass, with a little water alongside. A bottle that works as a gift as easily as a pour.
