Pendleton built its following among people who work outdoors and drink whisky at the end of the day, and the Director's Reserve is the brand's dress bottle. Twenty years of Canadian maturation, blended and finished with glacier-fed water from Oregon's Mount Hood, presented in a decanter that looks the part on a mantel.
Two decades in oak show as butterscotch, maple, dried apricot and vanilla, with a silky texture and a faint rye spice that keeps it from turning syrupy. The finish is long and warm. Serve it neat or with one cube, ideally for a retirement, a milestone, or a genuinely good piece of news.
