Penner-Ash arrived in Oregon in the late 1990s behind a winemaker who had already spent years shaping some of the state's most serious reds. The Chardonnay gets that same careful, low-intervention treatment: cool-climate fruit, measured oak and a refusal to let the wine turn heavy. It is a bottle for people who love white Burgundy and want the idea grown closer to home.
The profile runs to citrus and orchard fruit, white peach and Meyer lemon, with a creamy mid-palate and a saline, stony close. Chill it lightly rather than cold, near 50 degrees, and pour it with roast chicken, crab or aged cheddar.
