Grande Champagne is the innermost circle of the Cognac region, the chalk-heavy cru that yields the slowest-maturing and longest-lived eaux-de-vie, and Pierre Ferrand works with almost nothing else. The house has spent decades arguing that Cognac belongs in a glass to be tasted rather than in a cabinet to be admired, and this double-cask bottling is built along exactly those lines.
Maturation across two cask types layers dried apricot and candied citrus over vanilla, sweet oak and the faint floral lift that marks the cru. Rich without turning heavy, and long on the close. Drink it neat at room temperature, or let it carry a properly made Sidecar.
