Gruner Veltliner in a liter bottle belongs to a very specific tradition: the everyday format poured by the glass in wine taverns, unpretentious and meant to be drunk young. Polerhof bottles it exactly that way, and the extra 250 ml over a standard bottle costs less than you would expect. A wine for a long table and a second glass.
Crisp and dry, with green apple, lime, celery leaf and the white-pepper snap that makes the grape instantly recognizable. Serve it very cold. It is one of the few whites that handles asparagus, artichokes and schnitzel with equal ease, and it is superb with cold ham and mustard.
