Michael Pozzan has built a following in Northern California for reds that drink above their price, and this Cabernet Sauvignon makes the case plainly. It is built in a classic register rather than a showy one: real tannin structure, oak used as seasoning rather than sauce, fruit that stays lifted instead of jammy. A sound house Cabernet for anyone who wants varietal character without collector pricing.
Look for dark cherry and cassis over cedar, cocoa and a whisper of dried herb, finishing dry and firm enough to want food. Give it an hour open, serve it just below room temperature, and set it beside a ribeye, braised short ribs, mushroom risotto or aged cheddar.
