Robert Mondavi more or less invented the modern Napa wine industry, and the name still carries that weight. His Cabernet Sauvignon remains one of the most widely recognized in America, and for good reason: consistent year to year, generous in fruit, and built to be understood on the first sip rather than studied.
Blackcurrant and dark cherry with vanilla and mocha from oak, finishing smooth over round, easygoing tannin. Serve it at cool room temperature and give it twenty minutes open. A natural with steak, burgers, braised short ribs or aged cheddar, and a safe bet for a dinner party.
