Product Description
At the foot of the Himalayas in Uttar Pradesh, the Rampur distillery works with a climate that matures whisky several times faster than Scotland does. Asava is its most inventive expression: Indian single malt aged in ex-bourbon barrels, then finished in casks that previously held Indian Cabernet Sauvignon. Malt and wine casks, both from one country.
The wine finish is unmistakable, bringing red berries, plum and a dusting of cocoa over honeyed malt, toasted almond and warm spice. At 45 percent it has weight without heat, and the finish turns dry and faintly tannic. Drink it neat, and pair it with dark chocolate or aged hard cheese.
