The name marks the year Louis XV granted the house a royal accord, and Remy Martin has used it since for a cognac pitched squarely between VSOP and XO. Fine Champagne on the label means the blend draws only on Grande and Petite Champagne, the two most highly regarded crus of the Cognac region. The liter bottle suits anyone who already knows they like it and would rather buy less often.
Richer and more toasted than a standard VSOP, with baked plum, apricot and brioche over caramel, oak and a lingering note of toffee. The texture is deliberately silky. Drink it neat in a tulip glass, over one large cube, or in a sidecar.
