Product Description
Monte Bello sits high on the Santa Cruz Mountains ridgeline above the fog line, on limestone soils with almost nothing in common with the Napa valley floor. Ridge has bottled Cabernet from this vineyard since the early 1960s, making it one of the very few American wines with a genuine multi-decade track record in the cellar. Very little is made each year.
Structured and restrained rather than opulent: cassis, cedar, tobacco leaf and crushed stone, with tannins that are firm, fine and in no hurry. Drinkable now after a long decant, but built for a decade or more. Serve with simply prepared lamb or beef.
