Ron Medellin Anejo is the everyday aged bottling from one of Colombia's best-known distilleries, a cane spirit rested in oak long enough to soften its edges and take on colour. It is the bottle poured at family gatherings across Antioquia, and it does honest work anywhere a smooth, unaggressive rum is called for.
The palate runs to caramel, baked plantain and a whisper of oak spice, carried by the rounded sweetness that defines the Colombian style. Sip it neat at room temperature the way it is drunk at home, or build it tall with soda and a squeeze of lime.
