Chile is one of the few wine countries phylloxera never reached, which means its vines still grow on their own original roots. Root 1 takes its name from that accident of geography, and the wines make a straightforward case for what Chilean fruit delivers at a friendly price. Blackcurrant and dark plum lead, backed by cedar, a trace of graphite and tannins that are firm but polished rather than grippy.
