Root 1 draws from Chile's cooler coastal zones, where Pacific air slows ripening and preserves the acidity Pinot needs to stay graceful. For a grape that usually demands a serious budget, this is an unusually honest introduction to the style.

The body is medium at most, the tannins fine-grained, the finish clean and faintly savoury. Chill it for twenty minutes before pouring, because Pinot suffers badly when served warm. Salmon, roast chicken, mushroom risotto and a charcuterie board are all natural partners, and it is one of the few reds that will not bulldoze a Thanksgiving plate.
