Product Description
Ruca Malen was founded in Mendoza by a French winemaker with Champagne in his background, and that restraint shows in the wines. Malbec here is not the inky, oak-heavy caricature that flooded the market a decade ago. It is fresher, more mineral and considerably more interesting, drawn from vines planted high in the Andean foothills where cool nights hold the fruit in check.
The wine offers plum, violet and black cherry, with a savoury note of dried herb and tannins that are plush without going slack. Serve it at cellar temperature, around sixty-four degrees, in a broad glass. Grilled beef is the obvious call and the right one, though empanadas, roast vegetables and hard cheese all work beautifully.
