Norman Collins, better known as Sailor Jerry, spent his working life tattooing sailors in Honolulu and effectively invented the American tattoo aesthetic. The rum carries his name and his artwork, and it earns the association by being considerably tougher than the average spiced rum, bottled at 92 proof rather than the usual 70, with the spicing built to survive that strength.
Vanilla, cinnamon and lime leaf come through clearly, carried on a warming, genuinely rum-forward body that does not vanish under mixer. Build it with cola and lime, with ginger beer, or into a dark and stormy. The large format is the sensible buy for a party or a home bar that gets real use.
