Product Description
Negroamaro grows in the flat, sun-hammered heel of Italy, in Salento, where the heat produces reds of real depth for remarkably little money. Cantine San Marzano is a growers cooperative in Puglia that has built a serious reputation on exactly this grape, and this bottle illustrates neatly why southern Italy has become the value hunter's first stop.
The wine is dark and full, with black cherry, dried plum, tobacco and the bittersweet almond note that gives Negroamaro both its name and its character. Tannins are soft, the finish warm. Serve it at cool room temperature with lamb, sausage, aubergine parmigiana or a well-aged pecorino. Open it half an hour ahead.
