Product Description
Arneis came close to disappearing altogether in the 1960s, kept alive by a handful of Piedmontese growers who saw no reason to let a local white die out. It is now the pride of the Roero hills north of Alba, and San Silvestro makes a version that shows why the rescue was worth the trouble: dry, aromatic and genuinely distinctive.
Look for white pear, almond blossom, chamomile and a stony, faintly bitter finish that is characteristic of the grape. The texture is fuller than most Italian whites without losing freshness. Serve it cold but not ice-cold. Excellent with risotto, trout, veal, fresh cheese or antipasti, and a fine aperitif on a warm evening.
