Pale copper-pink in the glass, dry rather than sweet, and built for a long afternoon. California rose has improved enormously over the last decade as producers moved away from sugar, and Sand Point's version reflects that shift: it drinks like a proper wine rather than a dessert, with refreshment kept firmly at the centre of the design.
Strawberry, white peach and a touch of citrus peel carry a crisp, dry finish with just enough weight to handle food. Serve it very cold. It works with grilled shrimp, salads, charcuterie, spicy noodles and almost anything eaten outdoors. Buy two if the weather looks promising, because one bottle rarely lasts long.
