Product Description
Salento, the heel of Italy's boot, is where Negroamaro grows best, and Schola Sarmenti works that stretch of Puglia with plenty of sun and old-vine material. Wines from here deliver a generosity of fruit the north cannot match, and they still tend to cost less than their quality suggests.
The result is dark and warm: black plum, dried cherry, a note of tobacco and the faintly bitter almond twist the grape is named for. Tannins are ripe and rounded. Open it an hour ahead, then serve with lamb, braised beef, eggplant parmigiana or a hard sheep's milk cheese.
