Les Pierres is the single-vineyard chardonnay at the top of the Sonoma-Cutrer range, grown on a stony Sonoma County site that gave the wine its name. This is the bottling the winery stakes its reputation on, and it ages considerably better than most California chardonnay.
Tightly wound and mineral-driven, with lemon curd, white flowers, toasted hazelnut and a long, faintly saline finish. Give it a few minutes out of the fridge, serve it in a proper glass, and pair it with lobster, roast chicken or a rich fish course. A bottle for an occasion.
