Special Export earned its following the honest way, one Midwestern tavern at a time. Brewed originally by G. Heileman of La Crosse, Wisconsin and now part of the Pabst family, it carries a shade more malt body and hop character than the mainstream light lagers sharing its cooler. The 30-pack is the format it was built for.
Pale gold in the glass, with soft cereal sweetness, a faint grainy bite and a crisp dry finish that clears quickly. Drink it very cold, straight from the can, at a fish fry or a tailgate or a garage workbench. Dependable, unpretentious, and priced for a crowd.
