Sutter Home Family Vineyards has been in the hands of the Trinchero family since 1948, and its fruit-infused range is the least formal thing the house produces. This is the full 750 ml bottle of the wild berry expression, which is to say a berry-forward sweet wine priced for a weeknight rather than an occasion.
Expect blackberry and raspberry syrup, a round sweet middle, and a short, clean finish. Chill it hard. It is at its best alongside sharp cheese, dark chocolate, or a plate of ribs, and it makes a decent base for sangria with orange slices and a handful of frozen berries. Uncomplicated, and unapologetic about it.
