2011 was one of those Douro harvests producers still talk about, and Taylor Fladgate declared it without hesitation. Vintage port is made only in the strongest years, from a single harvest, and bottled young so that the long work of maturing happens in glass rather than in wood. This is a bottle built to be kept, and among the most collectible wines the region makes.
Dense and structured, with black fruit, violet, graphite and a spine of tannin that has years of evolving still ahead of it. Decant it, pour into small glasses, and give it air before you judge it. Aged hard cheese and unhurried conversation are all it needs.
